Features: Zou Tao-fen (1895-1944), also known as En-run, was a native of Yujiang, Jiangxi. He graduated from Shanghai St. John's University in 1921 and soon participated in founding and editing the Shenghuo Weekly. Later, he established the Shenghuo Bookstore, becoming a renowned journalist and publisher. After the September 18th Incident, he opposed the Kuomintang's policy of non-resistance, joined the China League for the Defense of Rights and Democracy, and took leadership roles in the Shanghai and National Salvation Councils. In 1936, he was arrested by the Kuomintang government along with Shen Junru and Zhang Naiqi, becoming one of the famous "Seven Gentlemen." After his release, he continued to actively engage in the anti-Japanese democratic struggle and wrote many influential articles and works. He passed away in Shanghai in July 1944 and, in his will, requested to join the Communist Party of China. The Central Committee accepted his application and posthumously recognized him as a full member. Experiences is the memoir of Mr. Zou Tao-fen. With heartfelt and emotional writing, Mr. Zou presents to us the journey of his growth from a poor student to a cultural figure and a patriotic democratic fighter. The hardships, struggles, and perseverance he endured not only moved and inspired us but also stirred us to action and enthusiasm. What is particularly valuable is that the chapter Experiences over the Past Twenty Years was written by Mr. Zou while he was in prison. His deep love for the country and his unwavering pursuit of democracy are profoundly moving. For this reason, we have compiled this book from The Collected Works of Zou Tao-fen and dedicated it to the readers.
