Publish Date: 1996-10-01
Features: This series of books is titled "Series on the Relationship between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China and Cross-Strait Relations." The desire to compile and publish such a series has long existed: on one hand, after editing "History of the Relationship between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China" and "Comprehensive History of the Relationship between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China," it was felt that the content in this field is vast, the research questions are numerous, and the difficulty is high, requiring the promotion and organization of experts and professors from all over the country to collectively tackle the research from all angles. On the other hand, since the first national academic symposium on the history of the relationship between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China was held in Wuhan in 1988, many experts and professors have not only frequently sent letters and made calls but also, in every subsequent symposium on the relationship between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China and cross-strait relations, demanded the compilation of a series of books. Thus, the planning for the compilation began, and by April 1993, the writing plan for "Series on the Relationship between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China and Cross-Strait Relations" was formulated. The author took the lead in compiling this series, neither focusing solely on the Kuomintang nor solely on the Communist Party of China, but rather studying the relationship between the two parties over the past 70 years from a historical perspective. Neither was the focus solely on Taiwan nor solely on the mainland of China, but rather the emphasis was placed on studying cross-strait relations over the past 40 years. In summary, our focus is to study the "two relationships" from various periods, fields, and different perspectives. We conduct research on the history of the "two relationships" from a vertical perspective and the theory of the "two relationships" from a horizontal perspective, with theory as the primary focus, combining history and theory. The series was initially planned to consist of 20 volumes, each with 25-30,000 words. The compilers guided by dialectical materialism and historical materialism analyze historical and current issues objectively, strive to reveal the laws of development in the relationship between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China and cross-strait relations, and aim to achieve a scientific system, rich content, correct viewpoints, reliable data, fluent language, and a combination of scientificity, theoretical depth, and readability.
