Features: This book is divided into five parts according to the historical process of China: Pre-Qin to Han, Three Kingdoms, Western and Eastern Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, Sui and Tang, Five Dynasties, Song, Liao, Jin, and Western Xia. Each part consists of chapters such as an overview, the governance of ethnic minorities by the central government, and the legal status of ethnic minorities. The content collected in this book includes: first, the governance of ethnic minority regions by successive dynasties, including military suppression, leniency, and kinship, involving political, economic, and cultural aspects of rule, as well as typical governance ideas of each era; second, the legal status of ethnic minority governments and groups as recorded in the "Twenty-Five Histories," including customary laws, legal cultures, the composition of ethnic minority governments, political and economic systems, and some distinctive social norms. Due to historical changes in China's territory and ethnic composition, this book primarily focuses on the historical study of domestic ethnic groups. The main purpose of this book is to compile legal historical materials, with little discussion of ethnic origin issues. To preserve the original form of the source materials, the book has undergone minimal modifications to the collected historical records. However, obvious typographical errors and punctuation mistakes in the original text have been corrected, and variant characters have been standardized. The book "Chinese Historical Legal Classics on Ethnic Minorities—A Compilation of Ethnic Minority Legal Materials from the 'Twenty-Five Histories'" is the result of Professor Fang Hui's seven years of dedication, completed in her spare time from teaching. It was also made possible with the enthusiastic support and assistance of many predecessors and scholars.
A concise collection of legal records of ethnic minorities from the "Twenty-Five Histories," the comprehensive legal of China's dynasties.
