Patient's question:
After the circumcision surgery, the glans has been exposed, but it becomes painful when it comes into contact with the outside world. How long does it usually take for the sensitivity to return to normal?
Thank you, doctor!!!
Doctor's answer:
Hello, postoperative recovery varies from person to person, so it's difficult to determine a specific time. It is recommended to rest and take good care of yourself, avoiding spicy and fishy foods.Edema after circumcision is a relatively common symptom. Mild swelling of the glans penis within 3-4 days after surgery is normal, but there is individual variation. The reason for this edema is that the blood supply (circulation) of the frenulum is relatively rich after circumcision. Postoperatively, the blood and lymphatic vessels of the skin are cut, and new circulation pathways need to be established, which may lead to poor drainage. Therefore, the edema that appears locally after surgery generally resolves within 2-3 weeks, although it may take longer than 3 months in some cases. However, there is no need to panic—once the new circulation is established, the swelling will naturally subside!
