Patient's question:
Why do there be white spots on the genitalia?Doctor's answer:
Genital warts, also known as condylomata acuminata, are a sexually transmitted disease caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, commonly occurring on the external genitalia and anus; they are primarily caused by HPV types 6 and 11. Due to certain HPV subtypes that cause genital warts being associated with the development of genital cancers, such as cervical cancer, they require special attention. Most patients are middle-aged or young adults who are sexually active. A history of unprotected sexual contact or a history of infection in a sexual partner is often present before the onset of the disease. The incubation period varies from 1 to 8 months, with an average of 3 months. Clinically, cases in children are occasionally observed, generally transmitted through contact with contaminated items such as towels.
