Features: This book starts from the fundamental topic of general linguistics—the principles of linguistic and typological writing systems—and proposes a new model of the origin of general paleography. The book is divided into three parts: First, it begins with the pictographic writing theory and analyzes the construction and shortcomings of the mainstream Western and European schools, represented by Geibert, in the field of writing system origins. Next, building on the full absorption of three major Chinese achievements—the data on the birth of Chinese civilization provided by the Xia-Shang-Zhou Chronology Project, research on minority languages and scripts, and preliminary explorations in linguistic and typological writing system theory—the book delves into the intrinsic correlation mechanisms and constraints between basic linguistic types and basic writing system types, proposing a new model of general paleography. Finally, to avoid repeating the "mistakes" of Geibert's model, the book adds a "verification" step to the original "materials—methods—theory" process. Based on the developmental facts of self-originating writing system systems with relatively complete material evidence, the newly proposed model is validated.
