Complete Yuan Wen (Volumes 21-25)

Author: Li Xiusheng, Editor-in-Chief
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2002-10-01
Features: This book aims to collect Han Chinese single-paragraph prose, parallel prose, and lyrical poetry and quatrains outside the Yuan Dynasty. The time frame for the authors included in this book is generally based on the Jin Dynasty and the Southern Song Dynasty. For authors from the original Jin territory, the upper limit is the third year of the reign of Emperor Xizong of Jin (1234); for authors from the original Southern Song territory, the upper limit is the second year of the Xiangxing era of the Southern Song Dynasty (1279); the lower limit is the twenty-eighth year of the Zhiheng era of Emperor Shun of the Yuan Dynasty (1368). Authors who entered the Yuan Dynasty from the Jin or Song Dynasties, or from the Yuan Dynasty to the Ming Dynasty, and whose main activities were in the Yuan Dynasty, are included as Yuan authors. This book follows the principle of "letting the text follow the person," and all works of the authors already included are collected without regard to whether they were written during the Yuan Dynasty. Works in the Confucian classics, history, and the Four Books and Five Classics of the Yuan Dynasty are generally only included as prefaces, postfaces, and single-paragraph Yuan texts cited in the books. However, works that can be considered collections, such as memorial essays in the history section, historical commentaries, and judgment collections in the philosophy section, are still included as collections. For the convenience of readers' references, this book is still compiled according to the old method and divided into volumes. Each volume contains about 10,000 words of text, with more works by one author spanning multiple volumes and fewer works by several authors in one volume. The Yuan texts included in this book are as far as possible based on good and complete copies, and the main text strictly follows the original copies. If there are indeed errors in the original copies, they are corrected and annotated. Generally, variant readings are not annotated. Annotations are appended at the end of each piece. Minor errors in stroke order that are clearly due to printing mistakes are corrected. All authors included in this book have short biographies written, briefly introducing their names, courtesy names, titles, posthumous names, birth and death years, places of origin, official careers, main activities, writings, and the inclusion of their works in this book, with the sources of the historical materials cited. For the convenience of readers' reference, in addition to the index of the collected volumes, appendices at the end of the book include the "Author Index of the Complete Yuan Texts," the "Title Index of the Complete Yuan Texts," and the "Bibliography of Works Cited Outside the Collected Collections."
