Features: Louise-Marie-Adéla?de Violette, originally named Louis-Marie-Adrien Violette, was born in 1851 in the coastal city of Rochefort in western France. Her ancestors were Protestants. In 1685, Louis XIV revoked the Edict of Nantes, which granted religious tolerance, leading to persecution of Protestants. As a result, the Violette family moved to Rochefort. From a young age, Louise-Marie-Adéla?de enjoyed fantasy, loved painting, music, and drama, but what greatly influenced her were her fourteen-year-old older brother, who served in the navy, and a discovered ship's log. They opened her eyes to the exotic landscapes and curious customs of distant lands. Consequently, she entered the naval academy and later devoted herself to a forty-two-year career at sea, progressing from an apprentice to a naval admiral, with her footsteps reaching every ocean.
