Features: The "Good Reads" Anthology is a newly launched collection of outstanding contemporary essays by Huayi Publishing House. This volume includes 37 short stories by 34 authors such as Mo Yan, Fei Jing, Su Tong, He Shen, Shi Zhongshan, Yan Lianke, Chi Zijian, Qiu Huadong, and Zhao Benfu, divided into four sections: "Social Realities," "Beauty and Warmth," "Grassroots Survival," and "Desire Cities." The content is closely tied to social reality and human nature, with vivid plots and engaging charm, allowing readers to experience the beauty of life and the radiance of humanity through leisurely reading. From hundreds of thousands of articles published annually in countless newspapers and magazines across the country, selecting dozens or hundreds of outstanding pieces is indeed a risky and challenging task. Fortunately, what we are compiling is merely a collection of "good reads," with the sole criterion being whether the stories are enjoyable. In other words, our selection is not intended to create a literary ranking, nor to choose so-called classics or premium works, nor to conduct competitions or awards for the pieces. We sincerely approach this with the perspective of an ordinary reader, maintaining a calm and ordinary mindset, driven by the public's reading interests. We strive to discover and gather those stories that attract readers, spark their interest, and transform reading into a joy and an enjoyment. Through this form of spiritual and cultural consumption, we hope to rekindle the freshness and softness in the hearts of readers who have become rough and numb due to market economy and social life, and to moisten the dry eyes that have long been parched. Not all "good" stories are necessarily masterpieces, but every masterpiece is undoubtedly "good" and deeply loved by the public. Dear readers, if you feel your hearts warm up or are touched and inspired while reading this collection, then as compilers, our original intention has been fully realized.
