Directing the Film: The Art of the Film Director is a classic film textbook and reference collection, widely used in film programs at top universities in the United States. It has been reprinted over twenty times in the U.S. The material in this book was collected from the Advanced Film Research Center of the American Film Institute, gathering comments from seventy-five directors who have ever worked at the American Film Institute. The author, Eric Sherman, organizes these materials organically into different topics using Aristotle's method of "the same problem, different answers," arranges them according to the process of film production, and adds annotations and summaries between topics to as comprehensively as possible explore all aspects of film work, depicting the full meaning of "what a director's job is." This book serves as a valuable reference for film scholars, students, and enthusiasts.
