How to treat infant indigestion?

Patient's question:

My son is one week old today. He had two bowel movements. The first one was formed in the front half and became wetter towards the back, ending up as a relatively wet paste. The second one was a relatively wet paste and seemed to contain undigested material. The bowel movements occurred once at 6:30 AM and once at 7:30 PM. Is this a sign of indigestion?

Doctor's answer:

Pay attention to the following points to prevent your baby from being infected with bacteria without causing stomach discomfort or gastroenteritis:
All feeding utensils should be disinfected before use, even if they are new;
If you don’t have a refrigerator, your baby only needs breast milk;
If your baby doesn’t finish the milk in the bottle, the remaining milk should be discarded and not saved for later feeding, as his saliva contaminates the milk.
Milk that has been heated should also be discarded, even if the baby hasn’t touched it, because heated milk is more prone to bacterial growth;
Milk that has been prepared should be stored in the refrigerator and cannot exceed 24 hours;
Feeding bottles should be kept in a disinfectant (with an effective duration of 24 hours) before use, so that the bottles are not contaminated by bacteria in the air.
