Whole Yuan Wen (26-40)

Author: Li Xiusheng, Editor-in-Chief
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2004-12-01
Features: This book aims to collect Han Chinese single-paragraph prose, parallel prose, and lyrical poetry and qu forms from the Yuan Dynasty, excluding other types of rhyming literature. The time frame for the authors included in this book is generally based on the Jin Dynasty and the Southern Song Dynasty. For authors from the original Jin territory, the upper limit is the third year of the reign of Jin Aizong (1234); for authors from the original Southern Song territory, the upper limit is the second year of the Xiangxing era of the Southern Song Dynasty (1279); and the lower limit is the twenty-eighth year of the Zhiheng era of the Yuan Dynasty (1368). Authors who moved from the Jin or Southern Song Dynasties to the Yuan Dynasty, or from the Yuan Dynasty to the Ming Dynasty, and whose main activities took place in the Yuan Dynasty, are included as Yuan authors. Following the principle of "letting the text follow the person," all works of the authors already included are collected without regard to whether they were written during the Yuan Dynasty. For the Confucian classics, historical, philosophical, and literary works of Yuan authors, this book generally only includes prefaces, postfaces, and single-paragraph Yuan texts cited in the works. However, collections that can be considered as anthologies, such as memorial essays, historical commentaries, and legal judgments in the historical section, and inscriptions and annotations in the philosophical section, are still included as collections. For the convenience of readers' references, this book is compiled according to the old method of dividing chapters. Each chapter contains about 10,000 words of text, with more works by a single author spanning multiple chapters and fewer works by multiple authors in a single chapter. The Yuan texts included in this book are as far as possible based on good and complete editions, and the main text strictly follows the original editions. If there are indeed errors in the original editions, they are corrected and annotated. For general variations, no annotations are provided. Annotations are appended at the end of each text. Minor errors in stroke order that are clearly due to printing mistakes are corrected. For each author included in this book, a short biography is written, briefly introducing their name, courtesy name, title, posthumous name, birth and death years, place of origin, official career, main activities, writings, and the inclusion of their works in this book, with the sources of the historical materials cited. To facilitate readers' searches, in addition to the index of each volume, appendices at the end of the book include the "Author Index of Complete Yuan Texts," the "Title Index of Complete Yuan Texts," and the "Bibliography of Works Cited Outside of Anthologies."
