What causes a baby's green stool?

Patient's question:

My baby is seven months old, but his bowel movements are not very normal. They are often green, and sometimes they are runny while other times they are thick. Could you please ask the doctor what could be the reason for this?

Doctor's answer:

The baby's stool is green. What are the specific manifestations of abnormal stool frequency, stool characteristics, feeding methods, etc.? If the baby only has green stool, with less stool output, non-liquid stool, and no other abnormal symptoms, it is more likely to consider the baby's diet, such as eating more green vegetables. For some breastfed babies, green stool may also occur because the iron in formula cannot be fully absorbed. If the baby's stool is green and accompanied by more frequent bowel movements, loose stools, and other symptoms, many factors are likely related to indigestion in the baby.
