Features: The book "The Real Story of the 'Liu Guoguang Storm'" is a stronger "storm" that followed the "Lang Xianping Storm". These two books were both planned and published by the Editorial Committee of the "21st Century Popular Literature Series," under the general advisory of Wang Rensi, former Minister of the Propaganda Department, former Secretary of the Party Committee of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Standing Committee member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. These two works can be considered interrelated sister volumes. The book takes restoring the dominant position of Marxism as its main thread, upholds the principle of "letting a hundred flowers bloom and letting a hundred schools of thought contend," seeks common ground while reserving differences, and ensures the fundamental interests of the people and unity and harmony as prerequisites, with the aim of correcting the right direction of reform and opening up. It widely collects representative writings of prominent figures from all walks of life, giving it historical materiality, theoretical authority, and readability.
Liu Guoguang was born on November 23, 1923, in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. From 1941 to 1946, he studied economics at the National Southwest Associated University in Kunming, Yunnan. After graduation, he entered the Research Institute of Tsinghua University in Beijing (now Beijing), but soon transferred to the Department of Economics at Nankai University in Tianjin as a teaching assistant. In September 1948, he moved to the Social Research Institute of the Central Academy of Sciences in Nanjing as a research associate. In 1951, he was sent to the Moscow School of Economics of the Soviet Union as a graduate student. He graduated in 1955 and received a master's degree. Upon returning to China, he joined the Institute of Economics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (now the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences) and held various positions, including research associate, researcher, academic secretary, head of a research office, deputy editor-in-chief and editor-in-chief of the journal Economic Research, deputy director, and director. From 1981 to 1982, he concurrently served as deputy director of the National Bureau of Statistics. From 1982 to November 1993, he served as vice president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. During this period, he was elected as a candidate member of the Central Committee at the 12th and 13th National Congresses of the Communist Party of China. Starting in November 1993, he served as a special consultant of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. From 1993 to March 1998, he served as a standing committee member of the 8th National People's Congress. He concurrently held professorships at universities such as Peking University, Zhejiang University, Northeast University of Finance and Economics, and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. In 1988, he was elected as a foreign academician of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Over the years, Liu Guoguang has participated in and led research, deliberation, and consultation on major topics related to China's economic development, macroeconomic management, and economic system reform. He is one of the most famous and influential economists in China today. In 2005, he was awarded the "First Outstanding Contribution Award in Chinese Economics."
