Xunzi Annotations (Vol. 1 & 2)

Author: Xun Kuang (Warring States Period), annotated by Wang Tianhai
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2005-12-01
Features: This annotation deviates from the common practice of using Wang Xianqian's collected annotations as the basis in recent times, opting instead for the (photocopies of Song Dynasty editions) from the (Ancient Lost Classics Collection) as the foundation. Additionally, it incorporates comparisons with the (Southern Song small box edition), (annotated edition), (Yuan Dynasty edition with Ming Dynasty revisions), (Ming Shide Hall edition), (Siku Quanshu edition), (Xie's edition), (augmented annotated edition), (collected annotations edition), (Wu Ruyun's annotated edition), and (Murakami Yoshisaburo's critical edition). This annotation extensively references over one hundred annotations from scholars ranging from Yang Jing to contemporary researchers. The appendix of this book compiles thirteen lost writings of Xunzi, four of which were collected by the author, contributing to the compilation of Xunzi's lost texts. The appendix also extensively gathers research materials on Xunzi from various dynasties and lists over two hundred referenced bibliographies to provide convenience for scholars studying Xunzi. Although the author has strived to collect the most comprehensive materials, he has put his heart and soul into making this work a classic following Xunzi's collected annotations. However, due to limitations in resources, some important old editions and modern excellent annotated works remain unseen. Moreover, with limited knowledge and modest abilities, the author feels that he falls short of the task.
