Traces of Thought -- A Cross-Cultural Observation by an Individual Critic

Author: Written by Zhang Yiwu
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2002-01-01
Features: Most of the articles in this book were written by the author during his two years in Tokyo. These two years in Tokyo were a rare experience for the author. Of course, he stepped beyond the boundaries of his past life and moved away from Beijing, which seemed always restless, enjoying a relatively leisurely life and having more time for quiet reflection. In fact, these thoughts may not be the result of deep deliberation, but rather responses to specific situations; they may not be lofty and eternal explorations, yet they are also commitments to the present moment. They are a witness to the concerns, imaginations, and emotions of a critic facing the world. The fragmentary thoughts are merely the insignificant reflections of a tiny marginal figure amidst the great changes in the world. Although they are trivial, they cannot be easily dismissed.
