Features: This volume is the 28th in the "Nanjing Massacre Historical Materials Collection." The selected image materials in this collection include the Japanese aircraft bombing Nanjing, the Japanese army's advance from Shanghai toward Nanjing, the resistance of the Chinese defenders in Nanjing, the process of the Japanese occupation of Nanjing, and the atrocities committed by the Japanese forces in the first six weeks after occupying Nanjing, such as the massacre of civilians and surrendered Chinese soldiers (300,000 in total), burning and looting, and raping women. The burial of victims' bodies, the protection and relief efforts by international figures in Nanjing, the post-war trials of the Nanjing Massacre case by the Chinese Military Court and the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, and the exposure of Japanese atrocities by domestic and foreign media after the Nanjing Massacre are also included. The historical image materials collected in this volume primarily consist of photographs, film reels, and images from publications taken by various parties at the time, including Japanese military personnel, Western and European residents in Nanjing, etc. Some archival documents are also appropriately included. The main sources are as follows: , historical images and archives held by the Second Historical Archives of China. Second, film reels shot by McGee. Third, images reflecting the Nanjing Massacre from the "Record of Japanese Atrocities" published by the Political Department of the Military Council of the National Government in July 1938. Fourth, the "Complete Collection of Photographs of the China Incident" edited and published by Asahi Shimbun, as well as "photographic albums" compiled and printed by various Japanese army units that participated in the invasion of China and the occupation of Nanjing. Fifth, photographs preserved by Western and European residents in Nanjing at the time. Sixth, photographs of the trial of Japanese war criminals by the International Military Tribunal for the Far East preserved by the U.S. National Archives. Seventh, historical albums published domestically and abroad on Japanese aggression against China, especially the Nanjing Massacre.
