Features: The citations introduced in this book are basically from the "French 20th Century Literature Series," which consists of seventy volumes. I had the honor to serve as the editor-in-chief and collaborate with scholars and colleagues in China to complete this largest literary collection of contemporary foreign literature, which has become an unforgettable and beautiful memory in my life. This literature possesses artistic qualities, is easily spread, is widely enjoyed by audiences, and has a vast readership. Its detective novels are works of realism. The themes it addresses are a dramatic period of French history in the 19th century. For readers familiar with the historical process of that era, it is necessary to provide a brief overview of the origins and developments of these historical events. The book covers numerous and extensive topics, naturally forming a broader perspective. In these two "Essays" series, involving over sixty to seventy writers and approximately one hundred works, ranging from the beginning to the end of the century, they have actually demonstrated the general historical process and various aspects of the development of 20th-century French literature. For major intellectual trends and prominent literary phenomena, there are focused descriptions, which, to a certain extent, have already incorporated the essential content of a literary history. Therefore, they are considered as a continuation of the original three-volume "History of French Literature," and their content has been summarized into twelve thematic sections.
