Why does the baby have foam when they poop?

Patient's question:

What are the reasons for a baby's bowel movement with froth? Why does a baby's stool have bubbles? How to treat it? Duration and frequency of the current illness: Froth in every bowel movement.

Doctor's answer:

Physiological diarrhea: Breast milk contains a high amount of lactose, most of which is broken down by lactase in the intestines, producing acid and gas that stimulate the intestines, causing the stool to be expelled as diarrhea-like, foamy discharge. Excessive starch or sugar increases fermentation in the intestinal cavity, leading to dark brown watery stools like the foam in the stool. Pathological diarrhea: If viral enteritis is often caused by rotavirus infection, after medication is ineffective, the stool is sent for bacterial culture and drug sensitivity tests, such as using sensitive antibiotics for bacterial enteritis. Use 500 milliliters of boiling water, add one teaspoon of salt and 10 grams of sugar, and feed separately. Additionally, it can be alternated with weak tea (green tea). If necessary, go to the hospital for intravenous drip, hydration, electrolytes, and glucose to prevent dehydration and acidosis.
