Patient's question:
I am 18 years old and have never had sexual activity, but I have had the habit of masturbation since I was 45. So far, it has been nearly 145 years, averaging 12 times a week or 34 times a month. There is no discomfort in my body, just a feeling of urination hesitation. This is why I am seeking help:Doctor's answer:
What Causes Urinary Retention:Psychological Factors: Psychological tension or panic can cause urinary retention, specifically, being unable to urinate normally when someone is nearby. Due to excessive mental stress, the neck of the bladder may become obstructed, and the bladder sphincter and detrusor muscle may not function coordinately. When the latter contracts, the former cannot relax accordingly, leading to poor opening of the neck of the bladder and the posterior urethra, and the urine cannot be expelled smoothly, resulting in symptoms of delayed urination.
Prostate Inflammation: Prostate inflammation primarily causes urinary retention due to excessive contraction of the sphincter, insufficient or untimely relaxation, and poor coordination with the bladder detrusor muscle. The symptoms and signs of this condition vary depending on the degree of prostate enlargement and the affected lobes of the prostate. Early typical symptoms include urinary retention, weak urine flow, narrowed urine stream, perineal pain, a feeling of incomplete urination, difficulty stopping the urine flow, and sometimes urinary retention. When obstruction worsens, patients may experience frequent urination, nocturia, urinary incontinence, urinary overflow, bladder distension, and may also have hematuria.
