Based on content and form, we have divided customs into major categories such as diet, clothing, housing, transportation, marriage, funeral rites, birthday celebrations, health care, social interactions, economic production, entertainment, and religious beliefs, and we have made efforts to explore the basic characteristics and evolutionary patterns of customs in each era. This book is divided into twelve volumes by era: Primitive Society, Xia and Shang, the Two Zhou Dynasties, the Qin and Han Dynasties, the Northern and Southern Dynasties, the Sui and Five Dynasties, the Song, Liao, Jin, and Western Xia, the Yuan and Ming Dynasties, and the Qing Dynasty. It aims to comprehensively and systematically reflect the historical trajectory of the development of Chinese customs. As for the chapter structure of each volume, guided by the principle of "seeking common ground while preserving minor differences," we have strived to reflect the characteristics of customs in each era.
