Sri Lanka is an island nation located at the southern tip of the South Asian subcontinent in the Indian Ocean, controlling the key shipping lanes in the northern part of the Indian Ocean. It has a coastline of over 1,340 kilometers. With its beautiful scenery and pleasant climate, it is known as the "Pearl of the Indian Ocean." Sri Lanka has a long history, with the majority of its population being Sinhalese and Tamil people, who have been in conflict for centuries. After the 16th century, it was ruled by the Portuguese and the Dutch, and by the end of the 18th century, it became a British colony. It gained independence in 1948 and was renamed Sri Lanka in the 1970s. Since then, its economy, society, and culture have developed rapidly, and its international status has greatly improved. However, in recent years, violent incidents have increased, affecting domestic stability. Therefore, the path ahead for Sri Lanka will still be full of challenges.
