How to check for prostate stones

Patient's question:

Go to the hospital for a check-up, diagnosed with prostatic calculi. The doctor said that only surgery can treat it. Do prostatic calculi require surgery?

Doctor's answer:

For most small and numerous prostatic calculi incidentally discovered during routine X-ray examinations, if they remain asymptomatic and static, treatment is often not required. Regular X-ray follow-ups are sufficient to dynamically monitor changes in the size of the calculi. However, if prostatic calculi cause urinary tract infections, chronic prostatitis, or are combined with prostatic hyperplasia, the presence of these calculi can adversely affect the treatment of other associated conditions. Surgical intervention should be considered in such cases. If you have any further questions, please click on the left-hand side [Click for Consultation] for assistance.
