Features: Since television communication itself is a form of mass communication, covering a broad scope and involving numerous related fields, it is also necessary to integrate other disciplines with television research to gain an international perspective on television media and television culture. Based on this thinking, various propositions have been developed, such as television culture and aesthetics, television and sociology, television and anthropology, television literature, narrative in television, and traditional Chinese opera in television. Some ideas and insights from the authors are both personal research findings and explorations. Some may have formed their own systems, while others may still have shortcomings that need further refinement and supplementation. However, they can at least serve as references, becoming one component in the diverse theoretical landscape of today.
Fundamental disciplines in television must strengthen their theoretical foundations, break through disciplinary boundaries, expand in the frontiers of interdisciplinary studies, and cultivate future professionals. This is the attitude we, who teach television in higher education, should adopt, and it is also another fundamental starting point for us to compile this series of books. If some of the explorations in this series are worth reading, engaging with, or inspiring others to think more deeply and meticulously, or if they provide insights and benefits for film and television students, then we would feel deeply honored and justified in our efforts.
To achieve what Sima Qian spoke of as "exploring the intersection of heaven and humanity and forming one's own unique perspective" is no easy task. Learning has no end, and academic pursuits are even more boundless. Just as truth can only be gradually approached and not fully grasped, we hope our efforts are incremental and sincere. Perhaps we cannot completely escape the surrounding noise and of the current era, but at least we can avoid vulgar commercial and uphold a simple academic conscience to discuss our own academic views. This also provides an opportunity to cultivate students' interest and passion for television, further update their perspectives, and encourage bold innovation to adapt to the reform and progress of film and television education in the context of globalization.
