How to treat prostate stones

Patient's question:

How is prostatic calculus treated?
I have a friend who is 55 years old. Initially, he had urethritis, and later he was diagnosed with prostatic calculus, which was said to be caused by friction and suppuration. However, there are no specialized drugs for treating prostatic calculus on the market. Please ask: What medication should he take? Or how should it be treated?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: For asymptomatic static prostatic calculi, treatment is not necessary. Regular observation can monitor changes. Only when prostatic calculi cause severe infection or other complications, and drug treatment is ineffective, surgical treatment can be considered.
There are three methods for surgical treatment of prostatic calculi:
(1) The most common method is transurethral resection of the prostate and calculi. It is often used for younger patients to avoid sexual dysfunction and can also be used for elderly or frail individuals to reduce physical impact. The disadvantage is that it is difficult to completely remove the calculi.
(2) For deep-seated or multiple prostatic calculi, transperineal total prostatic resection can be performed to remove the prostate and calculi. If necessary, bilateral seminal vesicles can be resected.
(3) For large, multiple calculi accompanied by prostatic hyperplasia, suprapubic prostate and calculus enucleation is recommended. However, surgery is more challenging for patients with prostatitis.
