Features: Hesiodus is one of the most important mythological poets of ancient Greece. If Homer's epics provided a mirror of historical legends for Greek civilization, then Hesiodus's works—Theogony, Works and Days, and The Shield of Heracles (believed to be by Hesiodus)—are the historical cornerstones of Greek civilization, thus becoming the foundation of the entire Western civilization. This book is a collection of papers from an international symposium, with topics primarily focused on interpreting the writing style of Hesiodus's choral poems and some of the influential chapters that have had a profound impact on Western tradition. The original title of this book is Hesiodus: The Art of Myth. It contains over twenty papers, spanning more than 500 pages. Many of the papers delve into highly detailed classical linguistic issues—due to limitations in human and financial resources, we selected 13 papers from this collection, focusing on grasping the narrative intent of Hesiodus and the mythological implications he expressed, while not overlooking textual details. Therefore, we rearranged the order of the papers and created a new title for the collection.
