Patient's question:
My baby is almost 12 months old. Recently, why does he urinate very little after drinking water? Is this normal? Why does a 12-month-old baby urinate very little?Doctor's answer:
Under normal circumstances, infants and toddlers aged 10 to 18 months can begin to be trained to consciously control urination. However, some children may still experience unconscious nighttime urination until they are 2 to 2.5 years old, which is a physiological phenomenon. But if after the age of 3, a child cannot control urination during the day or cannot wake up from sleep to consciously urinate, it is called primary enuresis or nocturnal enuresis. Some children can control urination at the age of 2 to 3, but then experience nighttime enuresis again after the age of 4 to 5, which is called secondary enuresis. This condition is most common in children under the age of 10 and occasionally extends to the age of 12 to 18.
