Features: The title of the book is "Introduction to the Study of Chinese Phonology and Phonetics," and the author's original intention was to guide students who are interested in Chinese phonology and phonetics, meaning that after reading the book, they can grasp the basic knowledge of how to study phonology and phonetics. Based on this, the author set the requirements for this book: to clarify the concepts of phonology and phonetics, trace the development of the field, summarize the main research achievements of predecessors and contemporaries, analyze research methods, and help young students understand how to study Chinese phonology and phonetics, as well as how to utilize the research findings in phonology and phonetics. However, it cannot safely deviate from the theoretical frameworks of predecessors and contemporaries. When arranging chapters, the author first introduces fanqie, dengyun, and Qieyun, from which the ancient and modern pronunciations are derived. Regarding the brilliant achievements in the study of ancient Chinese dialects, the author wrote a separate chapter titled "The Study of Ancient Chinese Dialects." The author has always believed that phonology and phonetics are an independent discipline but also a tool, so another chapter titled "The Application of Phonology and Phonetics" was added. The last chapter is a brief summary of research methods.
