Patient's question:
There are red spots on the glans, and over the next few days, the area has expanded to the size of a fingernail, with a red patch and a small, sesame-sized crack that hurts when touched. What is this condition and how should it be treated?Doctor's answer:
Consider balanitis:1. Maintain local cleanliness to prevent secondary infection;
2. For exudation and erosion, 3% boric acid solution or 0.1% Ringer's lactate wet dressing can be used;
3. For non-infectious subacute stages, corticosteroid cream can be applied;
4. In chronic stages or with dry scaling, tetracycline and hydrocortisone ointment can be used;
5. For obvious infection with fever and lymph node enlargement, systemic antibiotics such as cephalexin 0.5g orally 3–4 times/day or ofloxacin 0.2g twice daily can be administered;
6. For phimosis, circumcision should be performed after the inflammation subsides.
