Features: Throughout the long history of China, ethnic minorities, as important members of the Chinese nation, have made outstanding contributions in maintaining national unity, promoting ethnic solidarity, and developing economic and cultural exchanges among ethnic groups. Yunnan has 25 ethnic groups with a population of over 5,000, belonging to language families such as the Zhuang-Dong, Tibetan-Qiang, and Kho-Bwa. This book is divided into four volumes: Social Development, Production Labor, Life Customs, and Culture and Arts.
This is the first systematic and detailed book in Yunnan and even the country to introduce the social development status of various ethnic groups in Yunnan from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century (1950s-1960s), particularly during the early years of the People's Republic of China. The book provides 1,480 precious photographs taken at the time, authentically documenting the coexistence of Yunnan's ethnic minorities and the semi-colonial and semi-feudal society. It also objectively records the significant contributions made by Yunnan's ethnic groups under the leadership of the Communist Party of China in overthrowing the "three big mountains," implementing land reform, advancing ethnic autonomy, developing the economy and culture, and making great historical strides toward socialist political and economic construction. These efforts have achieved the integrity of national territory, harmonious ethnic relations, stability in border regions, and substantial improvements in people's lives.
