Features: Sexual harassment behavior is often very covert, as sex is a highly taboo topic in many social environments. What is even worse is that some victims may also face blame or humiliation when they become targets of sexual harassment. This culture of silence is harmful to individuals, businesses, and society as a whole. Therefore, let us work together to ensure that young women and men have bright hopes and that their self-esteem remains intact. We sincerely hope that the publication of the Chinese edition of this book can provide a valuable tool for members of the International Labour Organization in China, judicial workers, researchers, and activists, thereby achieving this important goal.
This book explores different perspectives and attitudes toward sexual harassment, defines the concept of sexual harassment, delineates workplace and work relationships, and summarizes the impacts of sexual harassment on victims, businesses, organizations, and society as a whole. It analyzes legal measures, workplace regulations, and practical actions taken at the international level, within countries, and in enterprises. The book also provides essential knowledge on the legal aspects of sexual harassment, offering training on prevention and complaint procedures.
The book cites 12 research reports from the Asia-Pacific region, updating and expanding upon the International Labour Organization's technical reports. This is aimed at fostering exchanges and discussions from the tripartite workshop on "Combating Sexual Harassment in the Workplace in the Asia-Pacific Region" held in Penang, Malaysia, in October 2001. The book also lists examples, data, and models of actions taken by various departments of the International Labour Organization and civil society organizations to combat sexual harassment in the workplace. All of these demonstrate that effective measures can be taken to address sexual harassment, regardless of financial constraints or the level of socioeconomic development in a country.
