Features: With the continuous deepening of China's reform and opening-up and the significant improvement of China's international status, the importance of Chinese language has become increasingly prominent worldwide, bringing rare development opportunities to China's teaching of Chinese as a second language (TCSL). As an independent discipline, TCSL has seen its research directions and content becoming more defined, its disciplinary connotation continuously enriched, its teaching and research teams growing stronger, and its research achievements becoming more abundant, achieving substantial progress. As a new and rapidly developing discipline, TCSL urgently needs a platform to showcase its achievements. However, there are very few specialized academic journals dedicated to TCSL research, which cannot meet the demands of the discipline's development and the need for researchers and educators to publish their findings and engage in academic exchange.
Shanghai Normal University has long been engaged in TCSL research and teaching, possessing strong academic strength and broad academic influence. At the dawn of the 21st century, establishing such a journal would not only further enhance the global influence of Chinese and promote the development of TCSL but also elevate the disciplinary status of TCSL and improve the theoretical construction of the field.
The journal Journal of Chinese Language Teaching and Research is founded with the mission of "promoting TCSL teaching and research both domestically and internationally, promptly reflecting the latest achievements and academic trends in the field of Chinese language teaching and research, comprehensively enhancing the academic level of teaching and research teams in TCSL, and providing a platform for academic discussions, research, and theoretical innovation." It aims to make positive and greater contributions to the development of TCSL in China in the aspects of disciplinary construction, academic research, Chinese language teaching, and cultural teaching.
