Is the kidney function test normal?

Patient's question:

The child is 3 years old. Among the four renal function tests, the other three are normal, but the creatinine level is only 36 (normal range: 70-133). Does this indicate normal renal function?

Doctor's answer:

Creatinine is only slightly elevated and cannot indicate whether kidney function is normal. It is recommended to recheck it. Creatinine enters the glomerular filtrate and is not reabsorbed. Moreover, creatinine levels are not affected by normal diet. Because when a person does not have kidney disease, the amount of creatinine excreted in the urine daily is relatively constant. When kidney function is impaired, blood creatinine levels will rise. Therefore, this result for your child is normal.
