Ten years ago, these idealistic and passionate young people came together, drawn by entrepreneurship. Today, the foundation that unites and attracts talent remains entrepreneurship—an innovative mechanism that keeps this collective vibrant. Despite the hardships of the entrepreneurial journey, my colleagues have, with passion and determination, built an ideal mountain. They interpret the spiritual pursuits of this era through their youthful perspectives, unique viewpoints, and open minds, advocating for their understanding of the meaning of life and humanistic values. This group of like-minded young people, driven by a desire for an extraordinary life and a meaningful legacy for their youth, have wholeheartedly immersed themselves in a place they believe can house the best years of their lives. I once served as the Director of the News Commentary Department for over four years. What I am most proud of is that I proposed and led the drafting of the department's motto: "Joining the News Commentary Department is a voluntary choice. We are committed to upholding the honor and dignity of China Central Television (CCTV). Here, we uphold truth-seeking, fairness, equality, and avant-garde thinking." I still vividly remember that evening in a meeting room at the Beijing Western Hills Hotel when everyone collectively adopted this motto—the atmosphere was solemn, sacred, and full of passion. This motto later became the soul of the unique department culture of the News Commentary Department. Over the years, many colleagues from the News Commentary Department and the News Center have dedicated themselves to their ideals and the honor of CCTV, even at great personal sacrifice. They have always earned my admiration and respect because every frame, plot, event, and story recorded by television originated from them—they are the original creators of all outstanding programs. This book recounts events from the past ten years, but it is not a history of those ten years. It is merely the observations, experiences, and reflections of a participant and witness who was deeply involved in the process. It describes the processes, backgrounds, pursuits, and reviews of some television news reform initiatives, new program experiments, and large-scale special broadcasts, as well as my annotations and interpretations of certain television concepts. These concepts and interpretations, however, are inevitably limited by the historical context and my personal level of understanding. From dawn to dusk, a decade has passed. The purpose of steadfast writing is to guide those who come after, to move forward without repeating past mistakes.
