Does newborn jaundice affect G6PD results?

Patient's question:

A few days ago, a child was just born, but after the child was born, it was found to have jaundice during the check-up. I want to do a G6PD test for the child, but I don't know if it will have an effect. Please ask if neonatal jaundice will affect G6PD?

Doctor's answer:

If there is jaundice, it may have some impact, but it is not significant. This condition can be divided into physiological and pathological types. Physiological jaundice refers to temporary jaundice caused solely by the characteristics of bilirubin metabolism. It appears 2 to 3 days after birth, reaches its peak between 4 to 6 days, and disappears between 7 to 10 days. Premature infants have a longer duration of this condition. Except for mild loss of appetite, there are no other clinical symptoms. Thank you.
