Features: When did modern book reviews begin? This is another difficult question. Which book review is the first of modern reviews has yet to beed, so I can only avoid the source and set a limit of a century, naming it "A Century of Book Reviews." There is another point worth mentioning: why does this book start with Yan Fu's "Preface to the Translation"? The Evolution of Species once shocked China and had a profound and far-reaching impact on the intellectual community. It was called "a Western learning also" by Hu Shi. Yan Fu's preface, especially the 29 annotations, is an excellent review of The Evolution of Species. Yan Fu was a modern enlightenment thinker and a brave advocate of the reform and innovation movement at the time. These reviews were written in 1896, so this century-old book review starts with his article. Of course, there were modern book reviews before this as well. Zheng Guanying's preface is also a good book review, but due to the constraint of the century-old number, it had to be omitted.
