Painted History

Author: Chen Zhongdan, Qian Cheng
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2002-10-01
Features: As the title suggests, this book is about historical paintings. What are historical paintings? They are included alongside landscape paintings, flower-and-bird paintings, and figure paintings, as they depict historical events and scenes. Previously, no similar works had been published domestically, so I offer this as a starting point, hoping to inspire greater contributions in the future. The main text of this book selects one hundred representative historical paintings for interpretation. Due to the large number and high quality of modern historical paintings, many of them are included, while other periods are also covered. Among them, there are more works by Western historical painters, but Eastern artists are also represented. In terms of technique, the book focuses primarily on realistic oil paintings while embracing works of various styles and genres, including naive sketches by anonymous folk artists.
