Features: China is a country with a long history and an extremely rich heritage of outstanding cultural achievements. Chinese art has its own complete system and unique national style. In primitive society, the ingenuity and outstanding artistic creativity of our ancestors were reflected in the production of labor tools and daily utensils. As history entered the slave society of the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties, with the emergence of classes, art underwent profound changes. The art of that time, especially bronze ware art, embodied the wisdom and talent of the laboring people of the era and held significant value in the history of world culture. Throughout the course of Chinese history, the feudal society spanned a long period. Comrade Mao Zedong said, "In China's long feudal society, splendid ancient culture was created."① From the Warring States, Qin, and Han dynasties to the Qing dynasty, over the span of 2,300 years, generations of painters emerged. The Comprehensive Biographies of Painters Throughout History alone records over 7,500 individuals, and when including those mentioned in other books and those found in artworks, the number likely exceeds 10,000. There were also other forms of art that were equally brilliant. In the past century, many studies on the history of art, primarily focused on Chinese painting, have been compiled into books. Before liberation, works such as Zheng Wuchang's Complete History of Chinese Painting, Pan Tianshou's History of Chinese Painting, Qin Zhongwen's History of Chinese Painting Studies, and Yu Jianhua's History of Chinese Painting were published. These works each have their own value and characteristics. In the decades since liberation, Wang Bomin's History of Chinese Painting came first, offering rich and systematic content with concise and accessible language. Subsequently, Li Yu's Outlines of the History of Chinese Art and Zhang Guangfu's History of Chinese Art were also well-received by a broad audience of art enthusiasts and professionals across the country. In summary, these successful works of previous scholars are invaluable resources for studying the history of Chinese art. Below, we will discuss the purpose, tasks, methods, and subjects of studying the history of Chinese art from three aspects.
