Is congenital cytomegalovirus infection common?

Patient's question:

My child hasn't been a month old yet, and I haven't finished postpartum either, but the child has been acting abnormally recently. The doctor said the child has been infected with cytomegalovirus. Is it common for newborns to be infected with cytomegalovirus?

Doctor's answer:

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) can cause multi-system diseases, and liver dysfunction is very common. After antiviral treatment, some cytomegaloviruses are difficult to turn negative, so long-term antiviral and liver-protecting treatment is needed. It is recommended to check the mother's cytomegalovirus infection status. When it is determined how the cytomegalovirus is infected, treatment is required, but it is essential to clear them first, such as doing some secretion virus isolation, and checking CMV antigens. If CMV inclusions are found after testing tissues and urine centrifugation, or specific DNA fragments of CMV, it can indicate cytomegalovirus infection.
