Features: "Fog" at sea is a major enemy of ship navigation. Throughout history, countless ships have run aground or collided in fog, leading to the loss of many crew members and passengers. It was only after the 1960s, with the advent of advanced navigation instruments, positioning systems, and collision avoidance radar, that the danger of ship navigation in fog was somewhat reduced. Due to the eight years of practical ship navigation experience before the mid-1950s, the author deeply understood the hardships of navigating in fog with outdated navigation instruments. This prompted the author to be mobilized and trained to study related technologies. Later, working together with colleagues from the Shanghai Maritime Administration involved in the maintenance and calibration of ship navigation instruments, the author helped establish a specialized team in Shanghai Port. The team aimed to help members overcome the challenges of navigating in fog.
