Can you eat cucumbers during chemotherapy?

Patient's question:

Summer has arrived. My aunt just finished chemotherapy at the hospital and said she has a heat-related condition, asking me to buy her a cucumber. I'm not sure if she can eat it, so I wanted to ask the doctors if it's okay to eat cucumbers after chemotherapy?

Doctor's answer:

Patients undergoing chemotherapy should drink more water and consume fresh vegetables and fruits (alkaline foods). Once kidney function is impaired, protein intake should be limited. In cases of edema, salt intake should be reduced, and foods such as animal kidneys, mullet, spinach, and amaranth should be consumed more frequently, along with foods rich in water and diuretic effects, such as watermelon, cucumber, winter melon, and loofah. These foods can be eaten in abundance, and it is also acceptable to consume more tonics. Good lifestyle habits should be developed, such as going to bed early and waking up early, and avoiding spicy foods, fried foods, smoking, drinking alcohol, coffee, and cola.
