How is impotence classified?

Patient's question:

Condition Description: Is erectile dysfunction divided into mild and severe degrees? How is it classified?

Doctor's answer:

Erectile dysfunction can be classified into three severity levels: severe, moderate, and mild. The symptoms of these different levels of erectile dysfunction are also distinct.
In mild erectile dysfunction, patients have relatively normal sexual desires. They can achieve erection quickly upon stimulation, and masturbation can also lead to erection. However, during sexual intercourse, the erection may not last long, and sometimes manual assistance is needed to penetrate the vagina. The frequency of sexual activity may decrease but remains generally normal.
In moderate erectile dysfunction, patients experience a reduced sexual desire. The penis responds slowly to stimulation of sensitive areas, and they cannot achieve immediate erection upon exposure to stimulation. Masturbation may only result in a weak or reluctant erection. During sexual intercourse, the penis often fails to erect, or if it does, the erection is not sustained and lacks firmness. The frequency of sexual activity significantly decreases, and sexual sensation is markedly reduced.
In severe erectile dysfunction, patients lose sexual desire entirely. Regardless of whether they are stimulated by sensitive areas,, or through masturbation, the penis shows no response. During sexual activity, the penis fails to erect and cannot penetrate the vagina. It lacks both erection angle and firmness, leading to the cessation of sexual life.
