Can full-term samples be discarded?

Patient's question:

My own daughter is a full-term small for gestational age (SGA) baby. She was born at a length of only 42 cm and a weight of 2100 grams. She was exclusively breastfed. Now she is 5 months and 4 days old, weighing only 9.8 jin and measuring 57.2 cm in length. I would like to know if it's okay to give up on a full-term SGA baby?

Doctor's answer:

Full-term babies can be acceptable, although they are born full-term but underweight, which is related to insufficient nutrition during pregnancy and restricted intrauterine development. Additionally, a small portion may have congenital developmental deformities, making them prone to deficiencies in vitamins and trace elements, weakened immunity, and a higher susceptibility to various infections. At five months, if the child's weight gain is insufficient, it is recommended to have blood tests, including a check for trace elements and vitamin D, to rule out any organic diseases.
