Penile curvature syndrome, what are the hazards?

Patient's question:

Lately, I've been feeling unwell and lacking energy. Also, when I'm with my wife, I've been unable to get an erection, and even when I do, my penis is slightly bent. After a thorough examination, I was diagnosed with penile plaques. What are the dangers of penile plaques?

Doctor's answer:

Penile plaques are caused by unclear reasons of infectious or autoimmune inflammatory diseases leading to the replacement of local elastic fibers with hyalinization and fibrous scars, which may even result in fibrosis and ossification. The main symptoms include fibrosis of penile connective tissue, with one or more hard plaques and cords on the dorsal side of the penis. During erection, the penis may bend upward or to the left or right, accompanied by slight pain. If the bend is significant, it may interfere with sexual life. Early treatment can involve local hormone anesthesia, which has a good therapeutic effect. If the anesthetic medication is ineffective, radiotherapy can be considered. If the erection is severely affected or significant pain recurs, surgical removal of the scars may be necessary.
