Features: The introduction of Tang poetry spread more widely and had a greater impact during the Ming and Qing dynasties. As a result, collections of selected and annotated Tang poetry emerged like bamboo shoots after rain. Among the numerous Tang poetry collections of the Ming and Qing dynasties, Wang Yaoqu's Gǔ Shī Táng Shī Hé Jiě (Comprehensive Explanation of Ancient Tang Poetry) was one of the more widely circulated versions. From the perspective of the spread of Tang poetry alone, Gǔ Shī Táng Shī Hé Jiě's ability to attract so many readers cannot help but draw the attention of those who study Tang poetry. Wang Yaoqu, styled Yiyun, was from Changzhou (now Suzhou, Jiangsu), with his life details unknown. Gǔ Shī Táng Shī Hé Jiě includes an autographical preface by Yaoqu, written in the second month of the Renzi year of the Yongzheng reign (i.e., 1728), suggesting he lived during the Kangxi and Yongzheng periods.
