Features: The Dong Jiazun Collection presented to the readers was selected from a large number of formally published works in the lifetime of the renowned scholar Professor Dong Jiazun (1910–1973). In 2004, it was the 80th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen University, and to celebrate this milestone, the university decided to publish the "Sun Yat-sen University Outstanding Humanities Scholars Collection." The author happily accepted the task of compiling the Dong Jiazun Collection. Professor Dong Jiazun was a famous sociologist and historian. His ancestral home was Changli County, Fujian Province, and he was born in China. From a young age, he received private tutoring. In 1930, he graduated from Fujian Provincial Senior High School and enrolled in the Sociology Department of Xiamen University. In 1932, inspired by Sun Yat-sen’s revolutionary ideas, he transferred to the Sociology Department of Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, where he formed an inseparable bond with the university. After graduating in 1934, he was recommended by renowned scholars such as Zhu Qianzhi and joined the faculty, serving successively as a teaching assistant, lecturer, associate professor in 1940, and full professor in 1942. In the spring of 1949, he was concurrently appointed as the head of the Sociology Department. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, he remained as a professor and head of the Sociology Department, and at one point also served as the director of the School Library. In 1952, during the reorganization of academic divisions, he transferred to the position of a historian, concurrently serving as the director of the Ancient Chinese History Graduate Studies Office. He passed away on January 7, 1973, at the age of 63. Professor Dong Jiazun’s academic career began with the study of Chinese sociology, later shifting to the study of Chinese social history, and finally to the research of ancient Chinese history. The works compiled in this collection, to a certain extent, represent the scope and achievements of Professor Dong Jiazun’s academic research.
