Features: This book analyzes the relationship between post-war Japanese inter-enterprise competition and industrial competitiveness from both theoretical and historical perspectives. It examines the characteristics of inter-enterprise competition reflected in this relationship and, based on this foundation, proposes several prescriptions for revitalizing the Japanese economy. To this end, the book sets the following two research questions: First question—What kind of competitive structure or competitive methods can be observed in the inter-enterprise competition that has taken place in major post-war Japanese industries? Why do such competitive structures or methods arise, and how do they unfold in changing circumstances? The research subjects for this question are the growth industries in the X sector, the regulated industries in the Y sector, and domestic industries, from which several case studies are selected. Second question—What impact do the competitive structures or methods observed in the aforementioned industries, along with their changes, have on the sustained growth or stagnation of the competitiveness of their respective industries.
