What should I do if my baby has vomiting and fever?

Patient's question:

My baby is now 70 days old. When she was over 40 days, she had a high fever, and after(being given intravenous fluids) the needle was removed, her fever subsided. A few days later, we noticed that she had developed thrush in her mouth. The baby was uncomfortable and didn't want to breastfeed much. The doctor prescribed some medication to apply to her mouth.

Doctor's answer:

Children experiencing vomiting and fever should first be considered as potentially caused by infections, with pathogenic microorganisms including bacteria or viruses. Therefore, it is necessary to take the child to the hospital promptly for diagnostic tests such as blood tests, C-reactive protein, and ion panels to identify the cause, eliminate the source of the infection, and provide symptomatic treatment.
Avoid eating for 4 to 6 hours if vomiting occurs, and small amounts of water can be given. For fever, oral antipyretics combined with physical cooling methods should be used for treatment. If vomiting symptoms are severe, intravenous fluid therapy may be required to prevent dehydration and maintain electrolyte and acid-base balance.
