Author: [Warring States Period] Liezi, translated by Li Jianguo, translated into English by Liang Xiaopeng
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2005-01-01
Features: Liezi is a classic work of Taoism, traditionally attributed to Liezi. Liezi, named Yu Kou, is also written as Lie You Kou or Lie You Kou, one of the representative figures of Taoism during the Warring States Period. The philosophical themes of the modern transmission of Liezi follow the stance and methodology of the traditional naturalist worldview of Taoism, with its doctrines close to Zhuangzi, but also mixed with the writing style and ideological content of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Therefore, some believe this book is a later forgery under the name of Liezi. Liezi contains many fables, folk stories, myths, and legends, preserving a wealth of valuable materials of ancient folk literature for us; on the other hand, works like the "Chapter on Strength and Fate" and the "Chapter on Yang Zhu" also reflect the reflections of Wei-Jin Xuanxue thought. This book is a complete English translation, translated by Liang Xiaopeng, a Ph.D. in Dunhuang Studies and professor of the School of Foreign Languages at China Ocean University; the modern Chinese translation was done by Li Jianguo, a compiler of the Chinese Language Press and secretary-general of the Chinese Society of Lexicology.
