Features: The 2005 Annual Meeting of the China Society of Criminal Law will be held in Wuhan, Hubei Province from October 28 to October 30, 2005. As an annual academic exchange conference for criminal law, this year's meeting has preliminarily set three major themes: research on the sentencing system of criminal law, research on dereliction of duty crimes, and issues related to the "Criminal Law Amendment (V)." These topics are closely related to the practical needs of China in building a harmonious society. The sentencing system of criminal law involves many issues in criminal theory and judicial practice. How to improve China's sentencing system, further enhance the operability of sentencing norms, and achieve multiple functions of the legitimacy, individualization, and humanization of punishment, urgently requires in-depth theoretical research from us. Dereliction of duty crimes are common and frequently occurring crimes in China's current stage. In recent years, the incidence of dereliction of duty crimes has continuously risen, with increasingly covert methods and complex cases. They not only severely damage the image of the Party and government in the public but also trigger a series of social contradictions and issues. How to effectively prevent and combat dereliction of duty crimes has become a major theoretical and practical challenge for the broader criminal law community.
